I normally just cover our fridge with all the beautiful holiday cards we receive. But this year, I’m tempted to display them in this Card Chandelier from Pottery Barn. What a great way to show off the assortment of designs without having to use a roll of tape or box of magnets. Then, in the off-season, I could hang photos or flowers above the dining table. Check it out here or visit Pottery Barn in Appleton, Madison or Wauwatosa.

Tasty Labels
October 12th, 2009
While we’re on the topic of beer, let’s honor those local breweries that have great taste in their label design. Furthermore, New Glarus, Ale Asylum and Tyranena are all tasty Wisconsin brews with clever label designs (and copywriting). Order one up to support your local breweries and local designers. Tiara Tomato
June 23rd, 2009While working at Fisher-Price, Kira Romashko-Thiel dreamed of launching her own line of paper goods. So, two years ago, that’s just what this Milwaukeean did. Working under the name of Tiara Tomato, this paper-obsessed gal pulls ideas from pages of vintage Vogue and Marie Claire, scraps of textiles, wallpaper, and ribbon. Since the launch of her handmade, eco-friendly company, her cards have gone on to win 6 prestigious Louie Awards and have an international following. Tiara Tomato cards and stationery can be found at tiaratomato.etsy.com and also in Anthropologie stores nationwide.
Welcome to Johnsonville
May 22nd, 2009Wisconsinites love Brats, so it’s no wonder Johnsonville’s annual Brat Fest sells over 200,000 brats at their Memorial Day festival in Madison every year. And just in time for this event, Johnsonville recently launched their new ad campaign, designed by Milwaukee firm Cramer-Krasselt, featuring summer occasions where consumers can enjoy the sausage brand, such as “Summerville,” “Vacationville” and “Togetherville”. Their ads have recently been seen in Good Housekeeping, Every Day With Rachael Ray, as well as on HGTV and Soapnet. The buzz around the ad-world has been positive and consumers seem to love the new use of wordplay and hometown imagery. So, this weekend, be sure to stop by Brat Fest and also check out Johsonville’s “Create your own ville” contest to enter or vote. Our favorite entry is GAMEDAYVILLE.

I dream in Pantone
April 24th, 2009In 1963, Lawrence Herbert, Pantone’s founder, created an innovative system of identifying, matching and communicating colors to solve the problems associated with producing accurate color matches in the graphic arts community. Over the last 45 years, Pantone has expanded its color matching system concept to other color-critical industries, including digital technology, textiles, plastics, architecture, interiors, and paint. Now you can find anything from eye wear, USB drives, chairs and toys in a variety of Pantone colors. This Messenger Laptop bag and Coffee/Tea mug set are just a few of Whitbread Wilkinson’s products seen at Pantone Universe. To sport one of these bags around town or offer your next client a cup of joe in #186C, visit Pop Deluxe on Madison’s State Street or online — they also carry Pantone book bags, Passport holders, Wallets and Espresso cups. Soon, your whole life could be color-standardized! What’s your Pantone # of choice?
