The Army is coming
January 29th, 2010Katie Daisy
January 26th, 2010Have you picked up this month’s edition of HOW? It’s their 25th anniversary issue of Typography and they happen to feature a gal from Chetek who hand draws some lovely type. Katie’s “lemon flavored” style is inspired by her love for vintage typography from the 50’s and old country music. Check out more at katiedaisy.com.
A Fresh Apple
January 4th, 2010Welcome 2010. Time to start fresh and eat some more fruit. Like apples, perhaps. I wrote about Vik’s ‘09 Apple a Day calendar last spring and Dave has now designed his new ‘10 version. Printed by the fine folks at Chicago’s Rohner Letterpress, this large 18″ x 23″ poster is a creative way to keep track of your healthy snacks and decorate your wall while doing so. Order one for just $24 here.
Paper Deli
December 21st, 2009Paper lovers, there’s a new store on Madison’s west side that’s worth checking out. A great little boutique called The Paper Deli that sells stationery, greeting cards, gifts, office accessories and even custom designed invitations. Need a last minute holiday card or gift? Stop by their store on Old Sauk Rd.
Holiday Cards
December 4th, 2009Have you ordered your holiday cards yet? Only 21 days left until Christmas! Lori at Marzipan is offering Studio Wisco fans 20% off now through December 31st! Yes, you heard it, 20% off your order – just enter “WISCO” when ordering. She not only has tons of designs to choose from, but she’s also a Wisconsin gal. And in addition to cards, she also has some new products such as bookplates and alphabet magnets. Check out Fin + Roe and Shades of Violet.
The Green Owl
December 3rd, 2009I tried a new restaurant in Madison for lunch today. Although I’m not a vegetarian, I really like veggie friendly restaurants and this one is also vegan. The Green Owl just opened at Schenk’s Corner’s on Atwood Ave. and it’s a great little cafe with a lovely design. I asked who designed their identity, but the waitress only knew that it was the owner’s sister. Stop by next time you’re in the area – it’s a small menu, but pretty tasty. I give it two hoots.
The Dane
November 23rd, 2009Living in Madison, I’ve been to The Great Dane a few times. In addition to their brews, my favorites on their menu are the fish tacos, hummus plate and falafel. So, although I don’t usually study their full menu, the classic design and newsprint layout definitely make it tempting to peak. Props to designer Craig Grabhorn who worked with Glowac + Harris on the three menu designs. Also shown is one of Craig’s screen prints which is pretty sweet. Check out more of his work at craiggrabhorn.com.
Show your cards
November 22nd, 2009I normally just cover our fridge with all the beautiful holiday cards we receive. But this year, I’m tempted to display them in this Card Chandelier from Pottery Barn. What a great way to show off the assortment of designs without having to use a roll of tape or box of magnets. Then, in the off-season, I could hang photos or flowers above the dining table. Check it out here or visit Pottery Barn in Appleton, Madison or Wauwatosa.
