It’s that time of year again, Wisconsin Film Fest in Madison starts next Wednesday. And did you hear that Typeface is being shown on Sunday the 18th at the Monona Terrace? It’s the documentary about wood type in rural Two Rivers, WI. Advance tickets are already sold out, but there may ben an event with director Justine Nagan, so stay tuned on that. Check out all the films at 2010.wifilmfest.org. His one-man multimedia show, “You Should Judge a Book by Its Cover,” takes thirty of the oddest book covers and tears them a new one. Design Madison is hosting Washington D.C.’s Design Army this month. Jake and Pum Lefebure will be at The Brink Lounge on February 11th to talk about their studio, success and balance of being partners at work and in life. DM members Free/Nonmembers $35/Students $10. The 3rd annual Crafty Mama Craft Fair is this Friday night, December 4th at Happy Bambino in Madison. As part of the Atwood Winter Fest, this fair will showcase a selection of work from artists: Ilia Klosnos, Maureen O’Grady, Stacy Stone, Meleah Moskoff and Michelle Martin. I saw this exhibit at the Walker in Minneapolis a few years ago, and now it’s at the MAM. Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is an exhibit that explores the work that Warhol produced during his final years of life. The pop artist’s exhibit is showing now through January 3rd in the Baker/Rowland Galleries. And, this Sunday, December 6th is Holiday Time with Uncle Andy – an afternoon for kids to experiment with spaghetti prints, Pop portraits, and traditional Pop Art images to create interesting and unusual holiday items. Anthropologie appreciates innovation, craftsmanship, artfulness and good design. This is one reason why they consistently win visual awards for their store windows and displays. This Sunday, their Hilldale location in Madison is offering a workshop hosted by the visual manager and design team. The UWM Student Design Conference is this Saturday, November 7th from 8-5 in the UWM Student Union Ballroom. This 3rd annual design conference is a great opportunity to network with fellow designers, explore the evolution of design, and learn about the past, present and future of design. Keynote speakers include Robynne Raye from Modern Dog Designs and Stephen Farrell from The School of Art Institute of Chicago. There will also be breakout sessions lead by designers from C2 Graphics, Iconologic, Redmark, Spreenkler and The Little Friends of Printmaking. More info here.
